Meet Yona

She possesses an extensive list of contacts that include electronic, radio, print, and online media, as well as professional contacts at all levels in the publishing industry.

Intellectual Ink had the privilege of featuring Yona Deshommes in intellectual Ink Magazine Issue 19. Here is a preview of the interview...

Can you tell our readers about Riverchild Media LLC?

Riverchild Media is a public relations company that focuses on the promotion of books for and by the BIPOC community. My main goal is to ensure that the works of authors of color are seen in mainstream as well as BIPOC spaces. Our community is unique in that we get our information from multiple sources, and I am always looking for innovative ways to promote books. It's not always just about the media! It's about connecting with people and that can be accomplished in a myriad of ways.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced when you started this venture?

COVID! I started my company when we were in the midst of the pandemic. I had to completely pivot and find new ways to promote my authors since there were no book events or in-person interviews, and many outlets shut their doors. Contacts I knew for years either went on furlough at their companies or left the business altogether. A PR's main bread and butter are their contacts, and I had to reestablish relationships and find new ones.

Sacred Promise is an amazing collection of true stories courageously exploring the deeper meaning of existence, the journeys we travel and the challenges we overcome, inviting us to consider the true purpose of our lives and how we can take action on the sacred promises we make for ourselves.

This book has a profound message; if we are true to the inner voice that guides us, we will find meaning, beauty, clarity and direction, even in the darkest of times as we navigate our way to our true purpose. This collection connects us to voices deeply embedded in diversity and unique perspectives, the authors sharing their stories and the sacred promises they have made to themselves, each one so different, yet brought together by the collective sisterhood and universal longing for hope and positive change for the world. 'What a perfect and meaningful book for women by women! Dr. Tererai Trent has changed so many lives for the better through her actions on education, and she is a great inspiration for anyone who has heard her speak or read her writings. This book will enable readers to believe in themselves and aim higher for their goals in life.'Chunmei Maja Sun, Founder and President, China Business Center Europe (CBCE)
