Love 2 Light Candles mission is to share our love of candles with each and every one of our customers. We use environmentally friendly wax which is a pure coconut-soy blend. They are slow-burning with amazing scents to help relax, reduce stress, and create the mood for any occasion. These candles are handcrafted in Charlotte NC and poured with tranquility and love in mind.
The CEO, Suszet Parker stopped by Intellectual Ink to tell us about Love 2 Light Candles!
What products and services do you offer? I offer customized candles such as Rose bouquets and wax melt candles. I also offer hand-carved wooden dough bowls candles which can be used as decorative pieces in your home after candle use. The customized dough bowl candles come with cotton wicks, but the rest have wooden wicks. The wooden wicks burn slower, allowing the candles to last much longer and create a crackling sound like a fireplace. I love them. Soon I will be offering candle-making classes for the youth.
How many hats do you wear? I wear many hats with my business. However, I enjoy it because I am constantly learning something new. So, with Love 2 Light Candles, I am the chandler (candle maker), social media marketing manager, shipping and receiving, and I educate others about candle making.
Tell us about some of the challenges you face as an entrepreneur. The most challenging aspect of entrepreneurship are slow sales, lack of support, and pushing through the days I want to give up. Life as an entrepreneur is no walk in the park. I believe you have to remind yourself of the reason you decided to pursue your dream. During the days, weeks, and months when there were no sales, I felt defeated, but I remembered that there is someone out there who needs my candles. That pushes me to create even when I don’t see anything coming in. My drive to make it no matter what it looks like overrides the feeling of defeat. I understand that feeling. I know it presents itself to stop me from moving forward. I allow myself to feel it, but I don’t sit in it. I let it know “I see you and I know you are here. But I’m greater than you. My business is greater than you and I will not give in.” This has helped me to revamp, come up with new ideas and be true to who I am as an entrepreneur.
What are you currently working on and what's next? I’m currently working on a children’s book with my grandson that will accompany a candle. This book will help introduce candle-making to families so that they can use it as a bonding experience. Candles bring so much peace and tranquility into a home and it helps with stress for adults and children. I want others to experience that. Within the next year or two I want to own my own candle/bookstore.

Intellectual Ink Magazine believes that supporting black businesses is essential to creating economic justice for the Black community. By utilizing the power of the Black dollar, small businesses have the potential to create jobs, provide vital resources, and stimulate economic development in their local communities. Unfortunately, Black-owned businesses are facing unique challenges due to systemic racism and discrimination in access to capital and other resources. Throughout the year we will be SPOTLIGHTING BLACK ENTREPRENEURS to help with these initiatives.
