It’s World Mental Health Day! A day to spread awareness and break the stigma around mental health. Let’s take this day to start important conversations about mental health, and how we can all support each other.
Mental health is an important part of our overall well-being. It includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Good mental health is not just the absence of mental illness. It’s about feeling good about yourself and your life, being able to cope with the ups and downs of life and being able to contribute in meaningful ways to your community.
As creatives, we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be creative and produce meaningful work. This can often lead to feelings of anxiety and stress. It's important to be aware of our mental health to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Mental health is often viewed as a taboo topic, but it’s important to remember that mental health conditions can affect anyone, even writers. In fact, according to a study by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness in a given year.
It’s not always easy to spot the signs of mental illness, but there are some common warning signs to be aware of, such as changes in sleeping or eating habits; withdrawal from friends and activities; sudden mood swings; and increased anxiety or irritability. If you notice any of these changes in yourself or someone you know, it’s important to reach out for help.
